“My mother asked me why I would want to see back after back as a chiropractor, the same thing all the time. It was not long that I realized I would be seeing person after person, helping them with a wide variety of problems, not just backs or back pain.
When I was in grade school, my grandmother asked my siblings and me who would be her chiropractor. I immediately spoke up and said that I would! I never looked back. I knew this was my calling. I saw the joy in her eyes as I set forth on my journey. I was fortunate enough to have support of my family and friends. Dr. LoPresti, a dermatologist and father of my friend Nick, gave me a recommendation to meet Dr. Mazzarelli in NJ. He assured me that Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA was the only place to go. There were a lot of choices, but he was right.
A Chiropractic Education
I received my undergraduate degree from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. I majored in biology with a minor in psychology. Dr. Franz was one of my favorite professors, offering guidance and excitement about my career choice. I chose to go to the fountainhead of Chiropractic, Palmer College of Chiropractic. My father and I visited the college and got to attend a rugby game. One of the players got injured on the field. A bunch of guys ran onto the field, one performed an adjustment on the player. He got up and ran into the game like nothing ever happened! My entire experience at Palmer was one I will never forget. I am still friends with many faculty and staff there and I still get great hugs from the ladies at the bookstore.
My Philosophy
The philosophy of chiropractic is so important to me that I spent over five years obtaining a degree in Chiropractic Philosophy. The power that made the body, heals the body explains much of what we do. The body knows how to function, it just needs no interference. I love adjusting children, they respond so well and so completely. For example, a little 5-month-old girl named Charlotte was told she would never walk or be normal. Following a traumatic birth which left her with a broken arm, broken clavicle, supposed spina bifida and scoliosis, I urged her aunt to bring her in with her mother. After her first adjustment, I called her house to check on her. Her grandmother told me that she did not know what I did, but Charlotte had not been that happy since birth. She now walks, talks and is perfectly normal. Anything to please a grandmother!
On a Personal Note…
In 1998, my friend urged me to take an aerobics class. I wasn’t so sure why he was being so pushy, but I am glad he was. The aerobics instructor was amazing in every way, she is now my amazing wife! We are blessed with the two most wonderful boys in the world. Cooper was born in 2003 and Vincent in 2006. Cooper became interested in bull riding when he was just 2-1/2 after seeing it on television. He is now a young stock contractor! That’s right, I bought my boy a bull. His fearless brother is also excited about bull riding, whether it is practicing bull riding on the couch or on their daddy. They can both hit a golf ball as well, which makes me happy to know that we have a perfect foursome.
As a child it seemed odd that my father put bee pollen and chlorophyll on his ice cream. Now, that makes sense. My dad plays hardball on Sundays and is in his 70’s! I am fortunate to come from a health conscious family. I began working out with my dad in eighth grade. When I got to high school, my big brother became my new workout partner and my younger brother soon joined us. Chiropractic care is a big part of all the lives in my family. I get adjusted at least once a week, as do my wife and sons. My boys got their first adjustments at 18 and 10 minutes old! Vince had the advantage of an earlier adjustment since he was born at home. Neither of the boys have been vaccinated. I am very fortunate to have a wife that feels the same way I do when it comes to the health of our two favorite people.
